LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky School for the Blind is celebrating 183 years of service to the community.
The organization provides educational services to blind and visually impaired students across the state.
During the 183rd Founders Day Program Thursday afternoon, students put on presentations and musical performances.
Community members were also recognized for their contributions to the school and advocacy for those who are visually impaired.
"It's important for us to know where we came from," Ashley Swafford, Kentucky School for the Blind alumnus, said. "If we didn't realize the history of those who are blind, we wouldn't be able to push forward with our education. What we know from the past, we celebrate what it was and what's to come."
The school offers full-time instructional programs for K-12 students statewide.
