LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man tapped to lead Kentucky's Department of Education went before lawmakers on Friday.

Dr. Robbie Fletcher answered questions before the Senate Education Committee.

"One of the things I feel about education, there is no greater honor, no greater trust, no greater responsibility than when someone sends their child to your school," Fletcher said.

Last year, the legislature changed state law mandating the Senate confirm the commissioner of education.

This is the first time that measure has been put into place.

Fletcher saw praise from both parties in the hearing. The full Senate must still confirm the hire.
