LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Back-to-school season is here and it can get pretty expensive for students to make sure they have everything they need.
Isaacs & Isaacs Law Firm and Stockyards Bank held the fourth annual Hammer Great Backpack Giveaway Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium.
Children needed to be present to receive a backpack full of supplies students need, along with some special gifts.
There was live music and a pet adoption event from the Kentucky Humane Society.
Due to the weather, the giveaway was changed to a drive-through event, but that didn't make it any less important for the students and their families.
"It means a lot because of the problem in Louisville," Darryl Isaacs said. "There is a great need and so there are a lot of kids that would go to school without a backpack. So that is why we started getting involved. We reached out to Stockyards and they are great but you never want a kid to go to school and never have adequate supplies."
This year, more than 1,000 backpacks were handed out.
