JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) — A group of southern Indiana runners are raising money to feed children in need.
"It's hard not to be motivated in those moments," Aaron Eldridge said. "You see the actual benefit, not just to yourself but to your community."
Eldridge and a handful of friends founded the River City Run Club last year. The group meets in Jeffersonville on Thursday nights at the base of the Big 4 Bridge.
Right now, the group is in the middle of a 12 week fundraiser. For every mile someone runs or walks, various local companies donate a dollar to REACH Food Program 4 Kids.
The nonprofit, which is run by volunteers, has delivered meals to students at home after school and on weekends since 2015. It also helps schools with snacks, hygiene items and other necessities.
"You have one hour to get as many miles in as you can," Eldridge said. "You can walk, run, or jog. You just have to use your feet. No bikes are allowed."
The run club is eight weeks into this challenge. So far, Eldridge said it has raised more than $1,900.
"We're averaging around 80 people every week," Eldridge said. "We've had a couple of run clubs from Louisville take the trek across the bridge to join us, which is awesome."
This fundraiser ends Aug. 27, 2026. River City Run Club meets for an hour at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday. It's open to people of all ages and abilities.
"Just show up," Eldridge said "Bring your friends! We would love to see you, even if you can only make it one week. We have shoe giveaways and swag, almost every week with this."
