LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Public Schools worked on its busing plan over fall break, and no major changes will be implemented as students return.

JCPS said busing efficiency continues to improve, and it's being worked on. The state's largest school district said major changes would require changing bus stops and routes.

The school district's fall break went from Oct. 2-6. JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio has said he doesn't want to make any of those major changes in the middle of the school year.

JCPS is still considering cutting bus routes for magnet and traditional students to help with bus driver shortages. Pollio said a Jefferson County Board of Education meeting in September that the days of the school district providing transportation to every student are likely coming to an end.

Currently, JCPS transports around 65,000 students. JCPS said it currently has 568 routes, and 578 full-time drivers. But, it averages 44 drivers a day calling out.
