LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Public Schools administrator reassigned from his job over the district's transportation breakdown will keep his nearly $200,000 salary for the remainder of the school year.
Monday, JCPS placed Chief Operations Officer Chris Perkins on special assignment. Personnel records obtained by WDRB News do not explain the job, but do lay out the pay.
He will keep his $195,000 a year pay rate until the 2023-24 school year ends. Then, the district will put him in a position that pays no more than roughly $150,000 a year, a rate he will stay at until July 2026.
Perkins was serving as COO when JCPS implemented a new transportation plan, with reduced bus routes, at the start of the school year. Those changes caused major problems, delayed buses and students getting home hours after dismissal. The district was also forced to cancel school for at least six days as it worked to fix the issues.
JCPS announced Rob Fulk as the interim COO for the district. The COO has a "wide range of responsibilities critical to the smooth functioning of JCPS, including transportation, facilities, nutrition services, and more."
