LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Life's unexpected turns sometimes force college students to drop out but the University of Louisville wants to help.

UofL launched the "Comeback Cards" program this year. It allows former students who haven't been to school for at least two years to be eligible for financial support and re-enroll.

For each semester a student completes, UofL will award $500 or $1,000 toward previous debts.

Sixty students have returned to study this fall and get their degree.

"Not having a staple like my bachelor's degree is a hindrance in progression," student Heather Marshall said. "So being able to come back here and secure that degree, I feel like will be a big deal."

Anyone who meets the criteria can apply. UofL said it reached out to over 3,000 qualified students when launching the program.
