LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A longtime Oldham County High School band director and University of Louisville music teacher has died.

The University of Louisville School of Music posted on social media that Brad Rogers died unexpectedly Monday. He was traveling as a staff member with the Kentucky Musicians Abroad tour in Europe.

Rogers joined the UofL faculty in 2023 and directed the UofL Community Band, worked with the UofL Cardinal Marching and Pep Bands, taught instrumental courses and supervised student teachers.

Before Rogers joined the faculty at UofL, he retired from Oldham County High School, where he was the director of bands for more than 30 years. The band program paid tribute on social media

"Mr. Rogers was a titan in the band community, and was known throughout the state of Kentucky for his dedication to his craft, his constant donation of his time, energy, and care to students, and his deep love for his family," the post said. "He will be deeply missed by the thousands of students, teachers, staff, and friends who had the pleasure to know him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time."

The University of Louisville Cardinal Marching Band praised Rogers' contributions to the program.

"He was a beloved teacher who created a legacy of excellence in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mr. Rogers’ family, including his wife Pat Rogers and their children and grandchildren," the post said.

According to his UofL staff bio, Rogers was a 1978 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, held a Masters degree in Music Education (1989) from the University of Louisville, and completed additional graduate coursework through Illinois State University and the Vander Cook School of Music.

Rogers is survived by two grown daughters, Brianna and Lauren (both OCHS and MTSU alumni), and his wife, Patricia.
