LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An evacuation was ordered Wednesday afternoon for a half-mile radius in Meade County after a gasoline tanker overturned.

The evacuation was canceled shortly after 7 p.m.

According to Meade County Emergency Management director Jeff Cox, Kentucky 79 and Kentucky 261, known as Sandy Hill Road, are closed.

Skid marks were clearly visible on the roadway before the truck landed on its side.

Out of concern for fire or an explosion, Cox said roads in the area were closed and an evacuation was ordered for a 1/2 mile radius because the tanker spilled part of the 5,000 gallons of gasoline it was transporting. Power was also turned off in the area.

The driver was hurt but it's unknown how serious the injuries are at this time.

Meade County RECC is also on the way to restore power to the area but the roads remain closed.

A CodeRED alert was sent to local residents. Updates were being posted on the Meade County 911 Facebook page.

Wednesday, about 8:30 p.m., Cox said the roadway has reopened, and the scene has been cleared.Ā
