LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man who was recently found dead at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

Brandon McQuillen, 43, was found unconscious in his jail cell just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers responded and began "life-saving measures" along with medical staff, but he was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m. The coroner's office said he died by suicide.

McQuillen was in custody for allegedly shooting and killing his father in Middletown back in March and planting a bomb near his home.

On March 12 about 7:30 a.m., Middletown Police responded to a report of gunfire, and a person lying on the ground on Winter Springs Court. Police said Brandon McQuillen shot and killed his dad, former Jefferson County Reserve Sheriff's Deputy John McQuillen, 65.

Police searched McQuillen's home and car and found an AR-15 style rifle, handwritten notes expressing his intent to kill his father, and things used to make explosives.

Court documents show Brandon McQuillen has a troubled past with his father, and both had taken out emergency protective orders against one another.

Brandon McQuillen was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in March where he pled not guilty on murder, violating an emergency protective order and other charges. He was being held in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $1 million bond.
