LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was found dead Tuesday morning while in his cell at Louisville's jail.

A city spokesperson said Tuesday that a 43-year-old man was found unconscious just after 10:30 a.m. in the housing unit at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. Officers responded and began "live-saving measures" along with medical staff.

But the man was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m.

"LMDC is saddened by this loss of life, and we send our condolences to the family," LMDC Chief Jerry Collins said in a news release Tuesday.

Collins said the death will be investigated by the LMDC Professional Standards Unit with help from the Louisville Metro Police Public Integrity Unit.
