LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Authorities have identified the woman who died inside Louisville Metro Corrections last week.

In a statement to WDRB on Monday, Metro Corrections Major Jason Logsdon identified the inmate as 53-year-old Shawnta Hughes.

On Nov. 6, Logsdon said corrections officers found Hughes "in medical distress and unresponsive" around 4:30 p.m.

It's not clear what caused her death, but Logsdon said the investigation is on-going.

At the time of Hughes' death, the jail was over capacity with 1,409 inmates in custody. The jail's capacity is 1,353 inmates.
