LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 53-year-old Black woman is dead after being found unresponsive at Louisville Metro Corrections.
According to Metro Corrections Major Jason Logsdon, corrections officers found the woman "in medical distress and unresponsive" around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Logsdon said officers began life-saving means until EMS arrived. EMS attempted to revive the woman, but she was pronounced dead about an hour after she was found, Logsdon said.
An internal investigation by the Metro Corrections Professional Standards Unit is being conducted, as per protocol. The Louisville Metro Police Public Integrity Unit is also investigating.
In a statement, Metro Corrections Chief Jerry Collins said mental health services were available to the inmates who might have been impacted by the death.
“Our condolences are with the family," Collins said. "Anytime there is a loss of life it is tragic, for everyone involved, and we are all impacted here at Metro Corrections.”
The woman's name or cause of death have not yet been released by the Jefferson County Coroner.
