LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — It's Spring Break for many in Louisville, but spring allergies are still in full swing.

Louisville has been ranked as one of the worst places in the country for seasonal allergies. Between the Bluegrass and its geographical location in the Ohio River Valley, it's a perfect storm for allergies.

To help with allergies, doctors recommend showering after being outside, keeping your hands away from your eyes and face, wear a face mask when doing outside chores and doing laundry often.

Kari Kirk, a nurse practitioner with UofL Ear, Nose, & Throat, said there are ways to manage allergies without going to a provider.

"Keeping your windows and doors closed prevents pollen from coming in the house, also washing your sheets with hot water," Kirk said. "I recommend some sort of air purifier for your home, like a HEPA filter."

Doctors recommend not waiting and to start treating your allergy symptoms at the very start.
