LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Better Business Bureau issued a warning about scam letters saying recipients were chosen for a "complimentary vacation" at French Lick Resort.
According to FOX59, recipients received the letters through the mail, which include a phone number to RSVP. However, the number directs callers to a "travel department" where scammers ask for credit card information, claiming it is for incidentals.
The offer promises a two-day, three-night hotel stay along with a $150 stipend for personal costs. French Lick Resort confirmed the promotion isn't legitimate.
The BBB said the scheme is part of a larger scam targeting resorts in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
"This company and several others is scamming people out of thousands of dollars with illegal mailers, fake free trips, inflated pricing for their 'wholesale travel club' they are currently operating in Ohio, Indiana, and Detroit," the BBB said. "This is a Ponzi scheme operating illegally in all consumer protection areas."
Anyone who receives the letter is urged not to call the number and instead throw it away or report it to the BBB.
