LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Families of incarcerated women at Louisville Metro Corrections celebrated Christmas together on Wednesday.
As part of a special event, children and parents were able to spend an evening together to celebrate the holiday.
Even Santa Claus made a special appearance, spreading joy to the little ones who were excited to open presents during the gathering. The evening was filled with smiles, hugs, and moments of connection that bridged the walls of incarceration.
The women participating in the event are part of the jail’s Women of Worth (WOW) program, an initiative designed to prepare them for life beyond their sentences. The program provides skills training, education, and support for substance use recovery and re-entry into society.
“Their daughters, their mothers, sisters, friends—so it’s impacting all those people as well as the communities, neighborhoods that they’re going back to,” said Meagan Kilkelly, the offender services manager. “They’re gonna leave here one day, and we just want every corner of their life to be improved when they do.”
The Christmas event has been a tradition at the jail for more than a decade, offering a glimmer of hope and a sense of normalcy for families during the holiday season. It underscores the program’s broader mission of fostering positive change in the lives of the women it serves and the communities they will eventually rejoin.
