LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A beloved 12-year-old boy died in a Brandenburg crash last weekend, according to police.

Police say the child was riding in a car with his father Kevin Owens Jr., when they turned into River Ridge Plaza from KY 313. The vehicle went into the path of a 2024 Freightliner dump truck, according to police.

The 42-year-old father and son were taken to Harrison County Hospital, but the son died there. Tiffany Owens identified her son as Kevin Owens III, known as Trey.

The boy was a seventh grader at Stuart Pepper Middle School, according to Tiffany. He played soccer for Meade County High School's junior varsity team and for a travel team, KY Rush Hardin Soccer.

"He was the baby of six," said Tiffany. "The sweetest, most wild, outgoing kid you would ever meet. He would give someone the shirt off his back if you needed it."

Tiffany said her husband Kevin is badly bruised, but doesn't have any broken bones. The dump truck hit Trey's side of the car.

Police said the dump truck driver was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation. Funeral arrangements are pending.
