LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 12-year-old was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Meade County Saturday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to a 2-vehicle crash on KY 313 at the entrance to the River Ridge Plaza in Brandenburg at 12:15 p.m.

Police said 42-year-old Kevin Owens made a left turn from KY 313 into the River Ridge Plaza when he turned into the path of a 2024 Freightliner dump truck.

Owens and his 12-year-old son, who weren't wearing seatbelts, were taken to Harrison County Hospital.

The child, Kevin Owens III, known as Trey, died at the hospital. His mother said Trey was a seventh grader at Stuart Pepper Middle School. He played soccer for Meade County High School's junior varsity team and for a travel team, KY Rush Hardin Soccer.

"He was the baby of six," said Tiffany Owens, his mother. "The sweetest, most wild, outgoing kid you would ever meet."

Tiffany said her husband Kevin is badly bruised, but doesn't have any broken bones. The dump truck hit Trey's side of the car.

The crash remains under investigation.
