LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Three fire departments are teaming up to bring faster emergency response to the Kentucky 44 and Bells Mill Road area.
The Zoneton, Mount Washington and Shepherdsville fire departments have launched a partnership to staff a full-time engine company at Mount Washington Fire Station 3, just west of Bells Mill Road. The agreement began Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.
The move closes a coverage gap created by the closure of the Bells Mill Road Bridge, which had slowed response times for nearby neighborhoods.
"This partnership is designed to improve response capabilities and overall service delivery across our jurisdictions," said Zoneton Deputy Chief Tracey Key in a news release.
Zoneton is providing the fire engine and an operator, Mount Washington is supplying an officer and Shepherdsville is assigning a firefighter to complete the crew.
