LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A firefighter was sent to the hospital for evaluation after falling through the floor while battling a house fire in southern Indiana.

Highlander Fire was called to a house fire a little after 4 p.m. Sunday on Windhill Drive in the Wind Dance Farm subdivision off Highway 150 in Greenville, according to department spokesperson Ryan Houchen in a release.

Houchen said when fire crews arrived to the scene, they saw fire burning through most of the second-floor attic, from the front to the sides of the home. The fire was hard to extinguish and freezing temperatures added to the difficultness.

Palmyra Fire and Floyd County Fire in Georgetown were called in for extra manpower, Houchen said.

One person and a firefighter who fell through part of the floor on the second level were taken to the hospital to be evaluated. Houchen said the firefighter was not seriously injured.

The whole second floor of the home is a total loss, and much of the first floor had fire and smoke damage. Four people are displaced due to the fire.

Houchen said as of 7 p.m., crews are still on scene clearing the home of spot fires. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
