LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville firefighters went Christmas shopping Friday morning for recent fire victims.

They packed the toy aisle of the Kmart on Poplar Level Road. The presents will be given to children who have been displaced from their homes in the past year because of fires and natural disasters.

The shopping trip gives firefighters a chance to revisit the people they've helped throughout the year.

"Now, on the tail end of things we get to see people and try to help them out again as recovering and get to see the kids smile, and see the firefighters in a slightly different light -- it's great," said Brian O'Neill with the Louisville Professional firefighters.

The toys will be given to children at the Red Cross Christmas party scheduled for Dec. 15.
