LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)---It was a fundraiser that many Louisville residents said they couldn't miss.

"A great opportunity for us to just come out and a once and a lifetime event," says Mechel Mitchell, who attended the fundraiser.

"I'm actually here because I want to see Obama get another term," says Louisville resident David Burns.

"I'm just interested in what she has to say," says Carol Cobb.

"I'm so happy to be here today. I've never seen her in person," Elsie Kennedy who flew in from San Antonio.

For much of Thursday afternoon people waited in line just to get in the fundraiser and to get a glimpse of First Lady Michelle Obama.

With security surrounding the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, and after extra checks of the building, the First Lady touched down in Louisville and soon after to the fundraiser to raise money for President Obama's re-election campaign.

As the First Lady arrived, crowds waited on every corner.

"It was just a rush. A fantastic rush," says Lolita Ewing, who waited outside the building.

Only those inside had the chance to see her, taking whatever photos they could.

"I was up front and I got to shake her hand and I got a wonderful picture, so I'm real happy," says Sheila Williams.

"She was fantastic. She had a lot of the same mannerisms as Barack did actually," says John Weber.

Allie Funk and John Weber met the First Lady, and say she spoke to the crowd about family, defending healthcare, and education investments. However, they say it was how she was acting when they met her that they were impressed with.

"She was doing handshakes and dancing and was really down to earth and made us feel comfortable," says Allie Funk.

Although President Obama failed to win Kentucky during the 2008 election, his Louisville supporters are hoping this event will help encourage voters.

"I thought the speech was very enlightening and uplifting and I'm ready to campaign," says Sheila Williams.

Tickets for the event ranged from $100 to $2,500, which all got you inside the door.

Nearly 1,000 people attended the sold out event.

President Obama has not visited Louisville since before his election,

This was Michelle Obama's first visit to Louisville as First Lady.
