LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Community members gathered Thursday night in Radcliff to honor first responders during a tribute event built on remembrance and community support.

The First Responders Tribute has been held for years and is funded entirely through donations. It was started by John Freeman, a military veteran and former police officer, to recognize the sacrifices made by those in public safety.

After his death, his wife, Margaret Freeman, and their daughters took over organizing the event to keep his mission alive.

Margaret Freeman said the goal has always been simple: to make sure first responders feel seen and appreciated.

"We want people to realize these first responders should be recognized," she said. "That’s why we do it, because my husband felt strongly they should be recognized. He was one of them."

Organizers said the event has become a lasting way to honor Freeman’s legacy while continuing to highlight the impact first responders have on the community.
