LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Former Clark County Council member Brittney Ferree entered a guilty plea to one count of Conflict of Interest.
That's a Level 6 felony.
Ferree, 45, was sentenced to two years in prison, with all time suspended to probation. She will be required to report to a probation officer in Washington County for 24 months until her sentence is satisfied.
When Special Judge Larry Medlock asked Ferree why he should accept her plea, she replied that she has a clean record, and has never received even a traffic ticket. She also said she is a single mom and the only source of support for the child she and Noel share.
"I'm obviously the only person that's taking care of our son," Ferree said.
Medlock wanted to know if Ferree has learned anything from her ordeal. "Not to trust somebody just because they're in law enforcement and they care for them," Ferree said.
Medlock also ordered Ferree to pay a $2,000 fine. She will not have to repay more than $114,000 she received from Noel for child support.
Ferree was ordered not to consume alcohol or drugs while on probation. If she does not uphold the terms of her probation, Ferree will be taken into custody to serve the remainder of her sentence.
Ferree turned herself in on Aug. 23, 2024, after Indiana State Police investigators said they were looking for her in connection with the charges against former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel. She was initially charged with official misconduct.
Ferree is listed on documents in the Noel case released July 25, 2024. According to search warrants and child support documents, Noel and Ferree have a child together. Noel was previously accused of using taxpayer money from the Utica Township Volunteer Firefighters Association to pay child support to Ferree.
In total, investigators said Noel gave Ferree more than $114,000 for child support, trips and other expenses using money from the Utica Township Volunteer Firefighters Association between 2019 and 2022.
Noel was sentenced to 12 years in prison in October 2024 and ordered to pay millions in restitution after pleading guilty to 27 felonies for theft, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, money laundering, corrupt business influence and official misconduct.
