JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Habitat for Humanity held a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday in southern Indiana.

The organization celebrated building and selling two new homes in Jeffersonville.

Construction on the homes started in May.

Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates homes for community members in need. Home buyers have to qualify for the mortgage. Once they're approved, they have to invest in the home while it's being built.

"In the beginning, it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. There's certainly a lot of sweat equity put in," said Dorcas Marrero, new Habitat homeowner. "We actually have to put in 250 while maintaining full-time jobs. I'm grateful to meet people along the way, we have to attend classes. But it builds strength and character and I'm super grateful."

Habitat for Humanity has built over 50 homes in Clark and Floyd counties since 1991.
