LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Who would want to build something just to see it blow up? The people at Level 1 Hackerspace.

A hackerspace is an open community lab and workshop made up of tinkerers, engineers, scientists and artists.

It's free and open for people to come in and use their tools like 3-D printers, saws and even sewing machines.

The space hosted a suicide robot hack-a-thon Saturday. Participants built robots that will ultimately destroy themselves in a spectacular fashion.

Ben Hibben, of the Level 1 board of directors, says the event is about sending a message, "for our team, we wanted to focus on bullying and the negative consequences of that and so we are building a robot that responds negatively to bullying. Our goal is to build a really cool explosion out of our device but also to raise awareness that bullying leads to bad consequences."

The hack-a-thon lasts until tomorrow at noon. That's when the robots will be blown up. If you want to be a part of Level 1, they have meetings every Tuesday night at 8. Visit www.lvl1.org.
