LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear signed two bills into law Tuesday that will help more residents pursue higher education and increase pay for retired teachers during reemployment.

House Bill 307 creates a proactive postsecondary admissions program. Public colleges will set minimum academic qualifications and identify high school juniors who meet those standards. Eligible students would then receive notifications showing where they qualify and how to apply.

Another education-related bill — House Bill 642 — will increase how much retired teachers can earn during reemployment. The measure increases the daily earning limit from $170 to $200 for retirees who return to work in eligible school positions.

"This is and will always be an education first administration, and I am always grateful for the opportunity to better support Kentuckians on their education journey and our hardworking teachers," Beshear said in a news release Tuesday.

Both bills are now law and will take effect later this year.
