LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) ā A major donation will help more Louisville homeless people get off the streets and into permanent housing.
On Thursday, the city announced a major gift for the Home for Good Initiative.
The Gheens Foundation donated $500,000 weeks after another $500,000 gift was made by Mary Gwen Wheeler and David Jones Jr.
The initiative's goal is to get 250 people into permanent housing by next year, through community partners like Well Spring.
"It was permanent supportive housing that paved the way for me,"Ā said Morgan Wyatt, who was formerly homeless.Ā "Well Spring not only housed me but they connected me to case management services, making sure that I had access to the resources needed to maintain housing. Permanent supportive housing didn't only give me a place to live, it gave me a foundation of hope."
In addition to housing, residents will also get support like healthcare, job training and access to social workers and other professionals.Ā
Home for Good's fundraising campaign aims to raise $3 million total.
