LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Honor Flight Bluegrass is recruiting World War II and Korean War veterans from Kentucky and Indiana for a flight in September.Ā

The local nonprofit takes U.S. veterans to Washington to visit war memorials at no cost to them. The veterans are 90 years and older.

According to a news release, the next Honor Flight Bluegrass will be held Sept. 24. Applications are due by July 19 so the veterans can be registered for the upcoming flight.

Honor Flight Bluegrass is a way to give back to the veterans and give them a proper "welcome home" after some of them weren't able to receive that when they returned home years ago. The journeys give them a chance to see the monuments dedicated to their service and have some fellowship with brothers in arms.
