LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A horse had to be euthanized after an accident at the World's Championship Horse Show on Tuesday.Â
Kentucky State Fair officials said in a release that the horse sustained injuries during a class when the bike contacted fencing that surrounds the ring in Freedom Hall. The rider did not require medical attention, but the horse was euthanized.
According to officials, the horse is being transported to Lexington for a necropsy to determine its injuries.Â
Classes for the Horse Show will continue as planned.Â
This is the second year in a row the show experienced a tragedy. During the fair last year, a 9-year-old girl was injured when her horse reared up, fell and died. The horse named Nosey Rosey suffered a medical episode waiting for judges.Â
The World's Championship Horse Show takes place during the Kentucky State Fair each year. The prestigious competition crowns world champion Saddlebreds, Hackney, Ponies and Road Horses in different divisions.Â
The show attracts more than 2,000 horses competing for more than $1.5 million in awards.Â
