LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The 2025 Kentucky State Fair is entering its first weekend with big crowds expected and safety top of mind.

Friday was sunny and hot with lots of fun happening and no reports of crime. Fair officials are hoping it stays that way as the fair brings back its chaperone policy again this year. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 every weekday after 6 p.m. Chaperones are needed all day Friday through Sunday.

Officials said IDs are being checked at the gate. There's a limit of six minors for each chaperone, so if you're bringing a larger group, you'll need more adults.

Fair officials said the rules and new security equipment will help keep the event safe and family-friendly as massive crowds pack the fairgrounds.

"In the recent years, we've invested millions of dollars into an entire security camera operation here at the facility," said Lexie Ratterman, a spokesperson for Kentucky Venues spokesperson. "While we do have police officers on the ground, we also have eyes all throughout the facility."

The fair runs through Sunday, Aug. 24. WDRB Day at the fair is Friday, Aug. 22.

There are several items that you're not allowed to bring to the fair, including weapons, drones and lasers.
