LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Gas prices have eclipsed $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022 amid the ongoing conflict in Iran.
But drivers in Indiana are buckling up for another increase.
Hoosiers will see a slight increase to the state's gas tax starting Wednesday, April 1, when they start paying two cents more per gallon.
The gas tax is adjusted each month based on the average price of gas by the Indiana Department of Revenue.Â
That means drivers will have to brace for another increase in May.
"I was saying the gas prices are ridiculous. Paying $4.50 a gallon almost is just out of control," said Amber Davis, an Indiana resident. "We're not gonna be able to take care of our families in a minute. We're coming to the gas station two, three times a week. It's ridiculous."
AAA says the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $4.02 — over a dollar more expensive than it was before the war began on Feb. 28. The last time gas was that high was nearly four years ago, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.Â
