LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A firefight is erupting in Indiana over a program to get guns off the streets.
A bill to prevent local governments from holding gun buy-back programs is on its way to the state Senate. The sponsor of the bill says he can't understand why police would want to destroy guns that have significant value and could be resold.
Under the bill, guns with scratched-out serial numbers would be destroyed - others would have to be sold to a firearms dealer or through an auction.
The Gary Police Chief says its buy-back program has made the city safer.
