Indiana lawmakers push back gay marriage debate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana lawmakers aren't getting into the battle over gay marriage.

The state's Republican House and Senate leaders decided to wait a year before taking up an effort to write the state's ban into the constitution.

Leaders say they are apprehensive of taking on the issue before the Supreme Court rules on related cases this summer.

Lawmakers approved the constitutional ban in 2011, but must approve it again before the end of next year in order to amend the state constitution.

The measure would then go on a ballot to give voters the final say.
