LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Soldiers in the Indiana National Guard left for the southern border Wednesday.Â
A departure ceremony was held at Camp Atterbury for about 50 Indiana National Guard soldiers to say goodbye to family and friends.
The guardsmen are headed to southern Texas in support of Operation Lone Star, assisting Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety in protecting the border.Â
"In our 209-year history, when there's danger out there, we've always been ready to go," said Indiana Gov. Mike Braun during his speech to the Hoosier soldiers Wednesday. "Thank you for answering the call and supporting the mission you're about to embark on."
This is not the first time the Indiana National Guard as been deployed to help. Last March, Indiana guardsmen were deployed to support Texas along the border.
