LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana's governor is deploying the Indiana National Guard to the U.S. Mexico border in Texas to help with security.

Gov. Eric Holcomb and 13 other governors were there earlier this week to  push for a more secure border.

After a request from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Holcomb deployed 50 Hoosier Guardsman to the southern border to support the Texas National Guard.

The soldiers will spend a week at Camp Atterbury in Indiana for training then arrive in Texas mid-March and spend 10 months there.

The Indiana National Guard has a history of supporting the mission to secure the southern border. From October of 2020 to October 2023, 300 Indiana Guardsmen and women served various federal missions at the southern border.
