LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Indiana has confirmed its first positive case of Chronic Wasting Disease.

It was discovered in northern Indiana in LaGrange County, near the Michigan border. 

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a neurological disease that affects white-tailed deer and is fatal.

So far, the disease has been reported in 33 states, including Kentucky.

The Center for Disease Control recommends that hunters strongly consider having their harvested deer tested before eating the meat.    

There have been no reported cases of CWD infection in humans.
