LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Indiana vape shops are adjusting to new rules that could change what products customers see on store shelves.
The law, which took effect July 1, bans the sale of vapes made in foreign countries, including many products manufactured in China.
Gov. Mike Braun said the change is designed to protect consumers from products with unknown ingredients and materials. But some vape shop employees say while they support making products safer, they don't believe a complete ban is the best solution.
"We want more regulation for these products at the end of the day for the safety of our customers, but this isn't necessarily the way to go about it," said Jesse Lewis, manager of Indy E Cigs in Terre Haute.
Because many vaping devices are produced overseas, especially in China, local shops could face limited inventory and possible shortages in the months ahead.
Business owners say they are still working through how the new rules will affect their operations and what products will be available moving forward.
