LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- UPS donated 25,000 pairs of socks to Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville on Thursday.

The socks were delivered to Wayside Christian's Hotel Louisville location at 2nd and Broadway in downtown Louisville.

The socks will go to the homeless at the nonprofit's shelter. The remaining socks will be given to other shelters and outreach workers.

Wayside said clean, dry socks are especially important for those living on the streets to help protect their feet, but are not an item people normally donate.

"We're so grateful for this gift, so grateful for the UPS employees who come together and put this project together. It's unbelievable, 25,000 pairs of new socks," Nina Moseley, chief operating officer at Wayside, said.

UPS collected the socks through their employee service project program that aims to "make a good impact on the less fortunate in our community."

Wayside said it takes a community to help keep the shelters running. Those interested in volunteering can stop by the shelter every Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
