LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Attorney's office is making some big moves.
Mike O'Connell said the main office will relocate, and the Criminal and Child Support Division offices will also move to new locations.
He said the moves will help better serve the public and his employees.
“We could not pass up this once-in-a-generation opportunity to move our main office and Child Support Division into two vastly improved spaces,” O’Connell said in a news release. “This is a giant leap forward for our ability to serve the people of Jefferson County and for the benefit of our staff.”
The administrative office and the Criminal Division will move from the Hall of Justice to the newly renovated "500W" building in Suite 1000 at 500 W. Jefferson Street on Nov. 28.
The plan calls for the Child Support Division to move from its current office at 315 West Muhammad Ali Blvd. to Watterson Office Park at 1930 Bishop Lane, Suite 100 in Jan. 2024. The office will close to the public on Dec. 22 and reopen on Jan. 2.
The Jefferson County Attorney’s Civil Division will stay at the First Trust Centre at 200 S. Fifth St. just a half block from "500W."
The Jefferson County Attorney Office needed more space. With the move, each attorney and victim advocate from the Criminal Division will have their own office, as well as most of the support staff. That's something they didn't have in the Hall of Justice.
The Child Support Division is moving to a centrally located area with open office and plenty of parking spaces, contrary to where they are currently located. The office will also be located on the TARC Route 21 bus line.
All three offices have been in their current locations since the 1990s.
As of November 2023, the office of the Jefferson County Attorney has 314 employees, 125 of those work in the Child Support Division
