LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has a warning for local seniors about scams.
The sheriff's office partnered with CenterWell Senior Primary Care on Tuesday to expose the tactics scammers are using to target seniors.
The goal was to empower seniors with the tools they need to stay protected as scammers grow more sophisticated. The sheriff's office said they're using technology to spoof phone numbers and get personal information so they sound more convincing.
"These are not about whether you're intelligent or not intelligent," said Chief Deputy Steve Healey. "They're about their ability to be able to deceive you."
Officials say the sheriff's office, or any other government office, will never call you and immediately ask for money. If that happens, you should hang up.
