LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown officials cut the ribbon on the city's newest fire station Monday and invited the public to attend an open house until noon. Â
Fire Station No. 54 officially opened more than a year after ground was broken on the project in September 2022. It's located at 12602 Taylorsville Road, near Interstate 265, and it's the city's fourth fire station.Â
Officials said Monday the new station will drastically cut response times in emergencies.Â
The $7.3 million facility was five years in the making. The 2-story building features a large kitchen, lounge area, fitness center and eight dorms for firefighters on 24-hour shifts.Â
One of its biggest features is its proximity to I-265, which will allow firefighters to respond to calls for service at the Parklands quicker, while reducing response times throughout the city.Â
Chief Sean Dreisbach said they already have more plans to continue to grow the firehouse.Â
"The fire station is built also for the future," he said. "We know this area is going to continue to grow. We want to make sure this fire station can grow with it."
It will need a new ambulance, however, for medical emergency runs. The ambulance is expected arrive in July.
