JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) — Jeffersonville, Indiana, is addressing traffic concerns along Holmans Lane, a consistently congested corridor in the city.

According to a news release Monday, the city will install dynamic radar speed indication signage at multiple locations, including the Eastbrook Manor subdivision.

The signage will alert drivers to their speed compared to the posted limit and collect necessary data for engineers to determine where additional measures are needed.

The city also plans to adjust the signal times at Peach Blossom Drive, 10th Street and Holmans Lane and 10th Street and Meijer Drive. The goal is to improve traffic flow traveling southbound on Holmans Lane to eastbound on 10th Street.

City leaders said traffic patterns in the area shifted after the closure of Charlestown Pike, which is expected to reopen this fall. The closure continues to cause backups on Holmans Lane, with some drivers cutting through Eastbrook Manor to avoid congestion at 10th Street and Holmans Lane.

Jeffersonville engineer Andy Crouch said that by adjusting the time of signals, drivers may experience a faster and easier commute — reducing the amount of cut-through traffic on the local roads.

"We want to implement this plan to see what kind of relief happens and then make a decision whether more steps are needed," Crouch said. "We’re hopeful that this plan along with the eventual opening of Charlestown Pike will ultimately reduce the cut-through traffic."

The Jeffersonville Police Department will continue traffic patrol within Eastbrook Manor in the meantime.
