LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A controversial constable will get tens of thousands of dollars in back pay after he won a lawsuit against the city of Louisville.

David Whitlock shot a suspected shoplifter at Walmart in 2011. He was charged with assault and wanton endangerment, but made an agreement that allowed him to avoid jail time and said he could never work in law enforcement again.

He brought a lawsuit against the city, saying he was shorted $500 a month in pay between 2007 and 2012, and a judge agreed.

As a result, the city has been ordered to pay him $33,500 in back pay.
