LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A man accused of killing a witness in a high profile Louisville murder case was acquitted by a jury Thursday evening.

Orlando Gilmore was accused of shooting and killing Greg Sawyers because he was a witness in a 2013 murder case. After he was killed, the case was thrown out.

Prosecutors argued Gilmore was hired by notorious accused murderer Ricky Kelly to kill Sawyers so he couldn’t testify against him. However, the defense said there wasn’t enough evidence to link Gilmore to the murder and the jury agreed.

"Why isn't there video of that? On these 35 cameras on surveillance? There's not," defense attorney Rob Eggert said.

After the verdict, Gilmore's mother Teresa says she knew her son was innocent and she is thankful for the not guilty verdict.

"I knew he didn't do this crime in all my heart because I know he's a good guy," Gilmore's mother, Teresa Moses said. "He is. He's a good son. He had been mixed up in the lifestyle but he's a good child."

Gilmore's co-defendant Odell Robinson took a plea deal with the commonwealth on Wednesday in exchange for his testimony.
