LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Sixteen people are about to receive the nation's highest civilian honor -- and two of them are from Kentucky and Indiana.
Kentucky native and country music legend Loretta Lynn and former U.S. Senator from Indiana Richard Lugar will be presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom honor later this year.
Other notable names include former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Sally Ride.
President John F. Kennedy created the medal 50 years ago. In that time, more than 500 people have been recognized for contributions to society.
