LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- President Donald Trump is now in office and some locals wanted to make sure they were part of the festivities.

As soon as Trump was elected, Tanya Moreno Fluke and her sister started planning their trip from Spencer County, Kentucky, to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration.

They had gone in 2016 too. They said that time was also historic and they felt the unity of everyone there.

"I've always been a big history person," said Fluke. "This one had more historical significance and I wanted to be a part."

This time, they spent hours trying to get into the public rally, walking through sleet and rain. Because of the bad weather in Washington, D.C., Trump's inauguration was held inside.

"It was mounds of people everywhere. They were wrapped around the block." Fluke said. "I would say there would have to be about a million people there and everyone was trying to be one of the 20,000 people that got to get into the rally."

While they weren't able to get into the rally, they were excited to be in U.S. capital for the inauguration festivities with people from all over the country. Fluke said they were in crowds of people from Alabama and Florida.

They said the drive there, even with the bad weather was still worth it as they felt the unity of the historic day, this time around too.
