LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman is pushing for stronger tools to crack down on Medicaid fraud.
Coleman announced Thursday that Kentucky joined a 17-state coalition urging Congress to pass the STOP FRAUD in Medicaid Act, legislation that would expand states' authority to investigate and prosecute Medicaid recipient fraud. Indiana is among the states supporting the effort.
Current federal law limits state fraud control units to investigating health care providers. The proposed legislation would expand that authority to include recipients.
The push comes after Coleman's office announced earlier this year that it uncovered nearly $11 million in health care fraud through separate investigations.
