LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A college student in Kentucky will donate her kidney to a stranger during spring break, WKYT reported Sunday.

Danny Firch, a coal miner from Johnson County, who is well-known in his community, has been living with Type 1 diabetes for nearly his entire life.

And he's now dealing with kidney failure.

"What we prayed about at our church, that's what I was wanting, something before dialysis," Firch said. "Lord sent us an angel."

Cherich Strunk, 25, has become that angel for Firch. She is a surgical technology student at Somerset Community College.

"Ever since I was younger, my mind has always been about helping people, and then I had seen a mutual friend post on Facebook that he needed a kidney and everything, and I just felt something," Strunk said.

Strunk reached out to the family to start the matching process. Firch's family said Strunk is now part of their family.
