LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new scholarship in Kentucky is aimed at raising awareness about the need for organ donors.

The Donate Life Scholarship Opportunity was created by the Kentucky Association of Circuit Court Clerks.

The program encourages students to express their passion for organ donation and transplantation in any way that inspires them and motivates others to sign up as donors.

Forms of expression can include writing a song about organ donation and playing it on social media, writing a speech for their school about the reasons people should register to be organ donors, or any other creative way to raise awareness.

Organizers said up to 20 $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in the spring.

The deadline to submit an application is April 5, 2024. For more information and to submit an application, click here.

The Kentucky Association of Circuit Court Clerks said since 1993, more than $20 million has been raised to raise awareness about organ donation, and more than 2 million Kentucky residents have been registered as donors. The association said more than 90% of those people joined registry while visiting their Circuit Clerk.
